Very little biographical information on Antonio Farina has survived, although a 1690 German book on the history of music lists the Italian as one of the greatest composers of the 17th century. Farina's music, however, speaks for itself—his heavenly Sovra carro stellato, Di Pausilippo, and Riposa, o bella are illuminated here by the superb voice of soprano Andréanne Paquin, a finalist at the 2012 Montréal International Musical Competition. Led by harpsichordist Andrea Friggi, the international Ensemble Odyssee—an orchestra devoted to historically informed performances of unheralded composers—also performs a trio by Alessandro Scarlatti and two orchestral sonatas by Pietro Marchitelli.
