|
When teenage journalist William Miller (Patrick Fugit) hits the road with an up-and-coming rock band, he finds there's more to write home about than just the music. This fictionalized insider's account of filmmaker Cameron Crowe's own experiences as a rock music journalist for Rolling Stone and Creem magazines won him a deserved Academy Award in 2001 for his original screenplay. Also receiving Oscar nominations were Francis McDormand as his progressive but protective mother and Kate Hudson in a star-making turn as super groupie Penny Lane. Philip Seymour Hoffman delivers an inspired performance as Creem editor Lester Bangs, and Zooey Deschanel makes her big screen debut as William's sister.
